General Questions

What areas do you cover?

We cover Southampton, Totton, the New Forest, Marchwood, Chandlers Ford, Winchester, Romsey, Hythe, Dibden Purlieu, Ashurst, Eling and Holbury. If you are just outside these areas, call us on 023 8122 1991 and we will let you know.

How long have you been established?

Flexible Heating Services was started by Mike and Chris in 2018, though both have been in the heating industry since 2006. We grew the business to offer a higher quality, more personal service in our local area.

Are you Gas Safe registered?

Yes. All of our gas work is carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers. We are also Buy With Confidence approved through Trading Standards, a Vaillant Advance accredited installer and a Glow Worm specialist.

Do you charge a call out fee and are quotes free?

All quotations are free and there are no hidden costs. We make it simple and cost effective, and we explain any price clearly before we start the work.

What are your opening hours and how do you take payment?

We are open Monday to Saturday, 08:00 to 18:00, and closed on Sunday. Payment can be made by bank transfer, cheque or card. A deposit may be required before larger jobs to secure the booking.

How soon can you install a new boiler?

We prioritise customers with no heating or hot water and offer a rapid installation service. In most cases we can have a new boiler installed within a few days of accepting the quote.

How much does a new boiler cost?

Boiler installations typically range from £2,000 to £4,000 including the boiler and the work. The exact price depends on the boiler, the property and the system. You get a clear written quote first.

What warranties do you offer on a new boiler?

As a Vaillant Advance accredited installer and Glow Worm specialist we can offer extended manufacturer warranties, often up to 15 years on qualifying boilers. We register the warranty for you.

Do you remove the old boiler?

Yes. Removing and disposing of your old boiler is included in the installation. We leave everything clean, tested and working.

How long until my boiler is fixed?

We carry lots of spares on our vans and our engineers are highly skilled at repairing boilers, so most boilers are fixed within 24 hours of contact.

Do you repair all boiler brands?

Yes, our engineers work on all major boiler brands. If a manufacturer specific part is needed we order it quickly and get you back to normal as fast as possible.

Is it worth repairing my boiler or should I replace it?

We give you honest advice. If a repair is sensible and cost effective we will say so; if the boiler is near the end of its life we will explain the options without any pressure.

Is there a call out fee?

There are no hidden costs. We explain any charges clearly before we start, so you always know where you stand.

How long does a boiler service take?

It takes our engineer about an hour to clean and test your boiler and confirm safe, efficient operation.

How often should I service my boiler?

Once a year. Annual servicing keeps your manufacturer warranty valid, keeps the boiler safe and efficient, and helps catch small issues early.

Will servicing keep my warranty valid?

Yes. Most manufacturers require an annual service to keep the warranty valid, and we can set up a yearly reminder so it is never missed.

Do you service all boiler brands?

Yes, we service all major boiler brands and provide a clear report on the condition of your boiler after every service.

Can you fit any type of radiator?

Yes, we can fit standard radiators, designer radiators, column radiators and bespoke options to suit the room and the look you want.

Can you replace just one radiator?

Absolutely. Whether it is a single radiator or a full set across the house, we give honest advice and a clear price first.

Will you balance the system afterwards?

Yes. We refill, bleed and balance the system so heat is even across all the radiators in the home.

Can you move a radiator to a better position?

Yes, we can relocate radiators as part of a wider refurbishment or to free up wall space, with the pipework adjusted neatly.

What are the benefits of cleaning the system?

Cleaning a central heating system improves heat up times, removes cold spots, restores efficiency and extends the life of your boiler and components.

How do I know if I need a power flush?

Cold spots on radiators, slow heat up, a noisy boiler or dirty system water are common signs. We assess the system first and advise honestly.

Do I need a power flush before a new boiler?

It is strongly recommended. Flushing protects a new boiler from debris in the old system and is often required to keep the warranty valid.

How long does a power flush take?

Most domestic power flushes take the best part of a day depending on the size of the system and how much build up there is.

Are new cylinders more efficient?

Yes, they are far better insulated and heat up faster, so you get more hot water and lower running costs.

What is the difference between vented and unvented?

An unvented cylinder is fed directly from the mains and gives much stronger hot water pressure throughout the home. We will recommend the best option for your property.

What size cylinder do I need?

It depends on the number of bathrooms and how you use hot water. We size the cylinder to your household so you do not run short.

Is the installation certified?

Yes, all cylinder work is carried out to the required standards and properly commissioned so the system is safe and reliable.

Can filters improve my water quality?

Yes, filter taps remove contaminants and improve the taste of your water, and a softener reduces limescale throughout the home.

Will a softener protect my boiler?

Yes. Removing the minerals that cause limescale protects pipework, boilers and cylinders and helps them run more efficiently for longer.

Where is the softener installed?

Usually near the incoming mains, often under the kitchen sink or in a utility area. We install it neatly and plumb it in correctly.

Do you supply the units?

Yes, we supply and fit softeners and filter taps sized to your household, or we can install a unit you have already bought.

Can you replace shower pumps?

Yes, we supply and fit shower pumps, taps, showers and much more, with honest advice on repair or replacement.

Do you fix leaks and low pressure?

Yes, we trace and repair leaks and diagnose poor pressure on pipework, taps and showers throughout the home.

Do you do kitchen and bathroom plumbing?

Yes, we handle taps, sinks, showers, valves and pipework for kitchens and bathrooms as part of our general plumbing work.

Will you quote before starting?

Yes, every job is quoted before we start and left clean and tidy, with no hidden costs.

Is underfloor heating effective?

Yes, it is very effective and very efficient. Heat is spread evenly across the floor so rooms feel comfortable at a lower temperature.

Can it be retrofitted or only new builds?

We install underfloor heating for new builds, extensions and renovations. We will assess the space and advise on the best approach.

Does it work with my boiler?

Underfloor heating works well with modern, efficient boilers and heating systems. We design and zone it correctly for the property.

Is it expensive to run?

Because it heats evenly and works at lower temperatures it is efficient to run, often more so than traditional radiators.
